  • Background
LG’s Multi V Heat Recovery VRF system has been chosen for the refurbishment of a 20,000sq ft two-storey glass front, office block building ‘710 Aztec West’ in Bristol. The replacement air conditioning system has been designed and specified by Consultant Engineers Wye Solutions.
  • Challenge
LG’s Multi V system met the tight performance specifications, the flexibility requirements and had the advanced system controls. Multi V offers high efficiency and zoned temperature control, thus offering savings on utility bills and saved time and cost on installation, due to LG’s HR boxes.
  • Solution
The equipment selected, 2 x 26HP Multi V heat recovery condensers, are connected to 31 x high static ducted units. LG high static ducted units have a two thermistor control where the temperature is measured at the deluxe controller as well as at the indoor unit, maintaining precise and accurate room temperatures, plus 3 x LG ecoV heat recovery ventilation units on both floors for the replenishment of fresh air.
Each floor is controlled by LG’s AC Smart centralised controller, which eliminated the need for a dedicated third-party Building Management System (BMS), thereby cutting further cost for BMS hardware and integration.
  • Benefit
Installer Kevin Pullen of contractor Invek commented: “When it comes to installation, I was very impressed with how the LG equipment worked and how quiet it was, including both air and plant noise. There are usually a lot of problems with noise from VRF branch boxes, but not with the LG units. LG’s service throughout the project was exceptional and LG commissioned the VRF system, free of charge”
The Consulting Engineer commented “We chose a VRF solution for this job as we do tend to lean towards heat recovery as we believe it offers maximum flexibility for landlords and tenants. In fact this job had been on hold for two years – it was re-designed and installed very quickly for Barratt Homes to take advantage of its new, optimally controlled indoor environment”.
